Raynaud Disease Versus Phenomenon

 RAYNAUD DISEASE VERSUS PHENOMENON

Primary Raynaud phenomenon (Raynaud disease) typically occurs in young womenas episodic small artery vasospasm in the extremities, nose, or ears; it results in blanching and cyanosis of the fingers or toes upon stress or (more commonly) expo-sure to cold. The pathogenesis may involve CNS and intravascular factors.

Secondary Raynaud phenomenon is caused by arterial insufficiency secondary toan underlying disease such as scleroderma (CREST).
